The submissive husband guide

Maybe you are already married and interested in sharing your submissive side with your wife. Or maybe you are a single or partnered submissive man and want to picture what it feels like to be a submissive husband. Don’t treat this like a guide to follow religiously; it’s an attempt to help show the myriad of beautiful forms that being a submissive husband can take. You are in more company than it can feel: in the largest US survey of sexual fantasies, about 81% of men reported having fantasized about submitting to a partner (Lehmiller), and in a UK survey we ran with Censuswide, 22% of adults said they are in or have been in a female-led relationship.

Choose what you want to try

Being a submissive husband can take several forms. None is more real than another, and there is no correct amount of submission.

“I enjoy being his boss from time to time. It’s a kind of thrill I didn’t even know existed until my husband introduced me to it.”

If you enjoy serving her, you might take ownership of the housework, learn when she would appreciate her favorite meal, or give her the hotel at home treatment she likes. Ask what actually makes her feel looked after. Then handle the planning and cleanup, without making her manage you or expecting an intimate reward.

If your interest lives in the bedroom, you can leave it there and be equal partners the rest of the time. That, too, is a complete, valid version of femdom and can be what you want.

If you enjoy her leadership beyond intimacy, you might agree that she has the final say on particular decisions, such as choosing weekend plans. Daily life can otherwise stay ordinary.

You might also want only a small private ritual. Asking how she would like to spend the evening, then setting it up, could carry meaning for both of you without defining the whole marriage.

Start with the part that appeals to you most. You do not need to adopt everything associated with being submissive.

Make it work on an ordinary weekday

Living together is both the test and the gift of dominance and submission (D/s). You get to build something that fits the person you know closely, including her tired evenings and changing preferences.

Before making an arrangement routine, agree on a few practical points.

  • Decide what it includes. It’s important to be open about your mutual preferences and the times of D/s you want to share.
  • Make room to decline. You remain a partner with the right to say no, including within an area where you usually submit.
  • Agree on how to pause. Either of you can say that you want an ordinary evening without the dynamic.
  • Check whether you both still enjoy it. Talk outside the role so neither person has to perform enthusiasm or authority.

Choose something that works when you are busy or tired. A marriage may last decades. Your arrangement needs room to change with your health, responsibilities, and desires.

Tell her before planning the whole arrangement

If you have not raised the subject, slow down before designing a complete fantasy. She needs room to discover what appeals to her, and neither of you yet knows what you will enjoy in practice.

1. Pick a quiet moment

Choose a private time when neither of you is rushed or in the middle of intimacy or an argument. Give the conversation enough space that she does not have to produce an immediate answer.

2. Explain the part that appeals to you

Use plain words and one concrete example. You could say that you enjoy the idea of following her lead in bed, or that taking care of her in a way she directs feels appealing.

Explain your interest before introducing labels she may understand differently.

3. Invite her response

Ask how the idea sounds to her and whether any part interests her. You are proposing something to explore together. Let her describe what she might enjoy, dislike, or need time to consider.

A curious response means keep talking. A reluctant response needs room, without repeated persuasion. A no is a no.

4. Address the work involved

She may hear your proposal as another responsibility. Explain what you would take care of yourself and ask what would make it enjoyable for her.

If you want to serve her, that includes learning her preferences and completing tasks without constant instructions. She does not owe you a performance of dominance in return.

5. Suggest one small first try

Offer something limited that she can shape. You might suggest an evening where she chooses how she wants to relax and you handle the arrangements. If your interest is intimate, discuss one thing you both want to try and agree on its limits beforehand.

Let her change the idea or decline it. Afterward, talk about what each of you enjoyed and whether you want to repeat or adjust anything. One enjoyable evening creates no obligation to expand.

Avoid these mistakes

  • Asking her to lead, then writing her script. Telling her exactly what to say, how often to say it, and which acts to perform leaves little room for her preferences. Expecting her to indulge your kinks regardless of her enjoyment means you are running things from underneath (“topping from the bottom”).
  • Treating her first yes as a minimum commitment. Agreement to one activity does not mean she must keep increasing the intensity or proving that she wants to lead.
  • Changing your behavior in secret. Do not start acting out a dynamic and hope she notices or goes along. Discuss it before involving her.
  • Making her manage your submission. Repeated reminders, demands for praise, and pressure to stay in character can turn it into work. She gets to put the role down.

Learn from other people

Other submissive men and couples can offer practical ideas and help this feel like an ordinary part of life. Reddit, FetLife, and munches (relaxed local kink meetups) can be places to hear how people handle chores, mismatched interests, and changing routines.

Protect your partner’s privacy. Agree on what you can share, leave out identifying details, and get her permission before discussing intimate experiences involving her. Other couples’ arrangements are examples, not standards you need to meet.

Start with the relationship you want to build

If you are married or partnered, start with an honest conversation with the woman you are already with. Explain one thing that appeals to you, hear her response, and choose a small next step only if you both want it.

If you are single and want a marriage like this, start by meeting someone who wants the same kind of relationship. Chyrpe is a dating app for people interested in female-led relationships and femdom. Be clear about what those interests mean to you, while getting to know the person you might share a life with.
